In 2004, Semra Aytemur completed her studies in Sociaal Juridische Dienstverlening at the Hogeschool Utrecht. During this education, she gained knowledge in various areas of law and was able to develop her communication and methodical skills. After completing her master’s degree in criminal law at Utrecht University in 2007, she joined the Amsterdam Court of Appeal. There, as a registrar, she provided legal support to the Fifth Criminal Chamber. This criminal chamber dealt with major criminal cases, ranging from major drug investigations to property crimes committed by criminal organizations. Her time at the Amsterdam Court of Appeal was very valuable, because she gained a lot experience in assessing extensive criminal files and writing court rulings. Thanks to her work experience at the Court of Appeal, Semra knows how judges think. She knows what they consider important in a criminal case and how they come to their decision. This comes in handy in her practice as a lawyer.

In 2011, Semra made a switch and became a lawyer. This was a deliberate choice; not only from a great passion for the legal profession, but especially from the viewpoint that every defendant, as the weakest subject in a criminal proceeding, should receive the best possible legal assistance. Semra is still convinced that good legal assistance is indispensable and is committed to this every day.

Since the introduction of the European Directive on Minimum Standards for Victims, Semra also represents victims in criminal cases involving serious violence. She does this with the same drive and passion. Semra can see both sides of the coin. This allows her to think ahead, even before certain steps have been taken by the other party.

In 2016, Semra decided to work for herself under the name 020 Advocatuur with an office in Watergraafsmeer. In 2024 she entered into a partnership with Nancy Dekens under the name Dekens Aytemur strafrechtadvocaten.

In daily life, Semra loves reading and writing. She gets her energy from yoga, pilates and spending time in nature.

Semra has written thirteen columns for the magazine Jeugd en Co and contributed to the book Jeugdige delinquenten.

Semra is a member of the Association of Youth Law Lawyers Amsterdam (JRAA) and a candidate member of the Dutch Association of Defence Lawyers (NVSA).

Semra speaks fluently Dutch, English and Turkish.
